Travel Planning For A New Era

Today’s concept of travel planning is nothing like it was 10 or 20 years ago. A common “travel agency” of the 90s was defined as, “a business that accommodates travelers by securing tickets, making reservations, and offering information.” Most of these agencies worked under a model in which the agencies were committed to working with specific companies across the globe to plan vacations in exchange for predetermined commissions–-with little regard for offering personalized suggestions that met the needs of their clients.

Journey Connected plans the best travel itineraries, luxury hotels, first class flights.

Modern-day travel agencies have transitioned from generic trip planning to travel planners, travel artists, and travel brokers—offering more personalized service along showing clients some of the best hidden travel gems to be found. In fact, these trending travel companies are literally disrupting the former travel agency market and rethinking the way people travel! These custom agencies are asking travelers questions like:

  • What is your ultimate travel experience?
  • Where would you go for your dream-of-a-lifetime vacation?
  • What would your perfect, customized travel itinerary look like?
  • Are you getting the right online resources to meet your travel needs?
  • What are some specific experiences you desire for your upcoming trip?

Top 5 U.S. Airports for Long Layovers

Top 5 U.S. Airports for Long Layovers

Long layovers can be a bore when traveling, what with you needing to spend hours in the airport waiting for your connecting flight.  Thankfully, some of the airports in the United States are better equipped to keep people entertained during this time than others. These are the ones you’ll want to be in during those long, endless layovers.

Here are the top 5 U.S. airports for long layovers:

Dallas Fort Worth (DFW)

All five terminals are the Dallas Fort Worth airport are filled with things you can do to while away time before your connecting flight. There are a lot of places you can shop and dine, lounges to relax in, workstations and even Minute Suites are available for a quick nap.

D Gates at Dallas DWF Airport Terminal – DALLAS, UNITED STATES

Denver (DEN)

The people at the Denver airport are very friendly and the terminals are quite spacious, which makes it easy to find a spot to relax when needed.  Travelers can shop at numerous stores before sitting down to dine on some of the most delicious local flavors that the Denver airport restaurants have to offer.  While waiting for your next flight, you can stroll along the Art Walk as you view statues and murals, or you can catch a glimpse of the Rocky Mountains from gates C23 and C24. Recently, a new line of the Denver Light Rail opened, connecting Denver International Airport to Union Station, so if you happen to have a really long layover, head downtown to do some exploring.

Denver, CO / USA: 5/8/2020 – Denver International Airport security gates at summer

Miami (MIA)

While most travelers would think that the Miami airport would be crowded at all times, it will rarely feel that way when you are there.  The terminals are large, so there will always be room for you to find some space for yourself when you need it the most.  When you are ready to join the crowds, you can venture in and out of the many stores as you do some shopping (Terminal D is literally a shopping mall within the airport) and then sit down in one of the numerous restaurants for a bite to eat – our favorite is Cuva.

Chicago

Many travelers never see any more of Chicago than the inside of the airport, but you can take advantage of your layovers to have an experience of the real Chicago.  There are multiple local dining options inside this airport that bring the true flavors of the city to everyone who sets foot in the Chicago airport.  That means you can taste a real Chicago hot dog without ever leaving the terminal!  Local businesses have even set up shop inside the airport to help you find that perfect last-minute gift for that special someone.  Any traveler that needs to relax and unwind from stress will love the Terminal Getaway Spas or the Urban Garden.

Travelers walk to gates at Chicago O’Hare International Airport in USA. It was the 5th busiest airport in the world with over 67 million passengers

Charlotte

Downtime at the Charlotte airport can be spent shopping at any of the numerous stores and boutiques, before you go into any one of the restaurants for a meal or a drink.  During your layover, you may want to wander around the airport to see the different pieces of art that are now on exhibit inside the airport.  Most of the works of art inside are murals and the most popular ones include the ones that can be found at the end of Concourse D, the one in the Atrium, and the one in between Ticketing and Baggage Claim.  The airport also boasts southern style white rocking chairs if you need to rest your feet.

Light streams through the glass facade of the tree lined and busy central concourse at Charlotte Douglas International airport.

No one will need to sit in a chair being bored while they wait for their connecting flight in any of these five airports, as there’s are a lot of things they can explore while waiting. Shopping, viewing art, relaxing, and dining on delicious cuisine is always much better than reading the paper and people watching.

After two long years of work, the world’s longest suspension bridge, Sky Bridge 721, finally opened up in May. The Sky Bridge hangs strong 95 meters amid the clouds, above Mlynsky Stream and a scenic valley. This less than 4 feet wide passage is packed with features to pump your adrenaline.

Dolni Morava is a one-of-a-kind mountain resort located at the Czech Republic and Poland border. From ski slopes to an alpine roller coaster (honored as the second longest in Europe), this area is abundant in activities for those who thrive on high-altitude adventures.

9 Must-See Presidential Landmarks

There have been many presidents throughout the years, and while many of them have their own landmarks, monuments, and libraries, not all of them are considered worthy of a visit.  Some people may choose to skip certain ones due to their feelings of that president, while others may decide to visit every single one out of obligation.  I am of the mindset where you definitely need to see specific presidential landmarks, because they are the best ones around.

9 Must-See Presidential Landmarks

The White House

The White House has been where every president has worked since John Adams took office, so it has quite the history.  While you can easily peer through the gates surrounding this property, from a safe distance, you can also try to obtain tickets for a tour of the inside.

The White House in Washington DC

Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Theodore Roosevelt did his best to protect lots of land during his time in office, so it shouldn’t be surprising that this national park was named after him.  When you are exploring this massive park, you will be thrilled to know that you are walking through areas where this Roosevelt spent his time hunting.

Ronald Reagan Presidential Library

This is the largest of all the presidential libraries and it also focuses on the time Reagan was governor in California.  Inside, you will find lots of history from his entire life in office, but your favorites will be the retired Air Force One jet, the replica of the Oval Office, and a large piece of the Berlin Wall.  With fifty thousand presidential documents, you could be there a while reading them all, so you won’t want to forget to check out the section that is dedicated to this president’s wife, Nancy.

Mount Vernon

George Washington grew up at Mount Vernon and he lived there until his death in 1799.  This historical home can be found on the banks of the Potomac River, just outside of Washington DC.  This is still a working farm, so you can see how it might have been when Washington lived there so many years ago.

George Washington house in Mount Vernon

Richard Nixon Library

Everyone has their opinion of Richard Nixon, but no one can deny the wealth of history that is on display at this library.  This is the same land as where Nixon was born, and he is buried here as well.  Inside this library, you can see a replica of the White House Sitting Room and the presidential helicopter.

Lincoln Home National Historic Site

One of the best ways to get to know Abraham Lincoln, who was the 16th president, is to visit the home he owned in Springfield, Illinois.  People have been able to tour this home since 1887 and during a visit you can see many of the items that were there when Lincoln and his wife lived there for seventeen years.

Abraham Lincoln House in Autumn in Springfield, Illinois

Springwood

Springwood was the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt and this home is pretty much the same as it was when he died in 1945.  Roosevelt was born at this house in 1882, spent much of his time there throughout his life, and is now buried there with his wife.

Jefferson Memorial

This memorial is massive, which is understandable since Jefferson was an incredible president.  When you visit, you will quickly notice the serenity of the area, which is mostly the Tidal Basin and a spectacular grove of cherry blossom trees.

Federal Hall National Memorial

Politics in America began up in New York City, which is why the Federal Hall National Memorial is on this list.  The first capital of the US was located where this memorial is now, so you will find yourself standing in a historical destination right away.  The small balcony slab is where Washington had his inauguration and the Bill of Rights was passed at this site a couple years later.

Federal Hall was the site of George Washington’s inauguration as the first President of USA.

These are the nine presidential landmarks everyone must visit at least once, but you may have a few others on your list as well.  Which other presidential landmarks would you like to take the time to see?  Which ones would you skip over if given the chance?

Amazing Tech-Savvy Hotels You Must Stay at Sooner than Later

Are you the type of person who loves all things tech or do you cringe at the thought of a computer knowing a whole lot more than you do?  While technology is not going to simply vanish in thin air, you can start to embrace it and enjoy the features that many hotels are including with every stay.  Imagine taking a vacation where you never need to worry about losing the key to your hotel room, carrying your luggage to your room, or trying to sleep on a bed that feels like a rock.  This is all possible when you begin to relax around all the tech-savvy features many hotels are including with their services.

Amazing Tech-Savvy Hotels You Must Stay at Sooner than Later

Eccleston Square Hotel in London, England

This hotel might be inside a historical building, but that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice the technology you may be starting to love.  A tablet will connect you to the concierge with one touch of a button and other touchscreens are available for playing music and controlling the lighting.  A television magically appears on the mirror in the bathroom as well, so you never need to stop watching a show to take a shower.

The Minotti Lounge at the Eccleston Square Hotel in London, England.

CUBE Boutique Capsule Hotels in Singapore

The hotel rooms might be smaller at the CUBE in Singapore, but that doesn’t mean they are not packed with a plethora of technological amenities.  You will still have your high-speed internet, USB charging ports, and lights that can be dimmed from the touch of a button.

Colorful facade with window shutters at the Singapore Visitor Centre at CUBE – Boutique Capsule Hotel on Bussorah Street in Kampong Glam.

TheWit Chicago in Chicago, Illinois

TheWit can be found within the Theater District and as soon as you enter your room, you can pop your smartphone in the dock to charge quickly for your night out on the town.  The best tech feature at this hotel is the rooftop lounge, which features a glass top retractable roof that opens when the weather is gorgeous and closes when it is not.

Night view of the illuminated Wit rooftop restaurant in downtown Chicago

Yotel New York in New York City, New York

Yotel can be found in the middle of Manhattan and they use technology there to save travelers like yourself time and money.  Check-in is as easy as visiting the self-service kiosk and the concierge is available at any time through an app.  YOBOT, the robot luggage carrier, will handle all your luggage, so you can wrap yourself up in a heated towel after a shower much sooner after your arrival.

Hotel Puerta America in Madrid, Spain

Four world-class architects created this hotel together, so it has plenty of style to go with all the technological features.  Every guest room can be customized with moveable walls and the floating furniture creates a unique way to spend some time away from home.

Morosani Fiftyone in Davos, Switzerland

Check-in and check-out are easy with the self-service kiosk at this hotel, but it does take away the personal touch from hotel staff.  However, the other tech features will quickly make you forget the lack of staff in the lobby.

The Torch Doha in Doha, Qatar

When you stay at the Torch Doha in Qatar, you will discover that you can control every little thing in your guest room from your comfortable bed.  Simply grab the iPad in your room to open the curtains, turn off the lights, turn on the television, make dining reservations, and even contact guest services.  You can even choose from twelve different mood lighting colors according to how you feel.

Torch Hotel Doha Qatar

Seven Hotel in Paris, France

Most of the rooms at this hotel in Paris are classic sci-fi style, but there are seven suites that all offer unique themes.  The Secret Agent Suite was inspired by the James Bond movie, while the Sublime Suite uses curves and white colors to create a room that looks like it came from the future.

Specialty Room in boutique Hotel Seven in Paris

Blow UP Hall 5050 in Poznan, Poland

Artwork is everywhere within this hotel, but it is not simply hanging on every square inch of the walls.  Instead, it has been digitized to create an interactive masterpiece every guest will love.  None of the rooms have keys or room numbers, which may seem confusing at first.  However, if you decide to stay at this hotel, you will receive an iPhone to help you find your room and open your door.  The iPhone also serves as a virtual concierge, so you can easily obtain lots of information about the area and the events that are taking place during your visit.

These are some of the most amazing tech-savvy hotels in the entire world and you must stay at each of them at least once in your lifetime.  Of course, I think that technology will continue to improve greatly in the future, so these hotels will continue to grow and flourish with even more tech-savvy features.  Hopefully, other hotels will jump on the bandwagon, so that we do not need to worry about missing out on technology that can make our vacations much more enjoyable.

Free Train Fares in Spain from September

Free Train Fares in Spain from September
Back in 2019, the COVID outbreak sabotaged everyone’s travel plans. From affecting tourism to drastically increasing living costs, at present, the recent inflation has impacted people in several ways. Fortunately, the Spanish Government came up with the perfect solution to tackle this financial burden.

From September 1 until December 31, 2022, locals and tourists can take advantage of a 100% discount on train rides. According to an announcement by the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, on July 12, the mid-distance regional lines, Catalonia commuter routes, and commuter trains will operate free of cost. If you’re arranging a trip to Spain, scheduling it for the last portion of the year is better.

Renfe’s Efforts in Combating Inflation

Renfe is the name of the esteemed company offering their trains for this venture. Last month, a 30% discount policy on metros trams and buses was declared by this company. Tourists can use these trains to journey completely free to Bilbao, Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville through their new additional measure.

With big budget saves on the daily commute, this venture will prove to be beneficial for the locals too. Besides these big cities, you’ll also be able to travel between small towns without the travel expense. It’s important to note that according to Timeout, the free rides policy only applies to multi-trip tickets or routes less than 300 km (medium distance).

Modern hi-speed passenger train of Spanish railways company-Renfe, on Madrid railways station Puerta de Atocha.

How this Policy is proving to be Beneficial to People

This initiative is mainly primarily directed at Spanish season ticket holders. However, tourists can take advantage of it and save money on inter-country commute costs by purchasing a multi-ride ticket.

Barcelona city and Port in evening. Catalonia, Spain

Tourists can use all the money saved via this new policy on exploration or food instead. Hence, making your trip affordable and budget-friendly. The Spanish Ministry of Transport reported that the primary purpose of this initiative is to motivate people to utilize public transportation. It ensures an economical, secure, and reliable source of commute despite the grave rise in fuel costs. By effectively diminishing the adverse effects of the surge in energy prices, this step by the Spanish Government is doing wonders for the civilians.

Final Takeaway

In these crucial times, the little efforts of the Government toward providing financial relief to their people go a long way. Spain fulfills this duty by making inter-country travel free and accessible to the masses. Along with Spain, other European countries like Germany and Austria also offer reductions in public transport.

Launched in December 2021, the James Webb telescope now amazes us with the magical views of the first full-color captured images by the infrared space observatory. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has given us an actual glance into the universe’s complications and secrets with the images of distant galaxies and cosmic phenomena.

Carina Nebula, located about 7600 light years away, is a complex region of dark and bright nebulosity in the constellation Carina. Its incredible view was featured in one of the first photos released by NASA. James Webb’s 3-D picture, Called the Cosmic Cliffs, seems like craggy mountains on an evening sparkled with moon glow. According to NASA’s statement, the cliff is the edge of the massive, gaseous cavity within NGC 3324. The tallest “peaks” in this photograph are nearly seven light-years high.

The image depicts emerging stellar nurseries and individual stars that were previously unrevealed and cannot be seen in visible light images. NASA writes, “Because of Webb’s sensitivity to infrared light, it can peer through cosmic dust to see these objects.” The star formation process will be brought to light by the observations made based on Carina Nebula’s image.

The image of the Southern Ring is another astonishing photo released by the space station. It is a planetary nebula – a sparkling and expanding gas shell ejected from dying stars. According to NASA, “Webb’s powerful infrared view brings this nebula’s second star into full view, along with exceptional structures created as the stars shape the gas and dust around them.”

Lastly, the massive image of Stephan’s Quintet visual, sent by the James Webb Telescope, is a complex of five galaxies. According to the space station, these galaxies are well known for their appearance in the film “It’s a Wonderful Life.” We can explore four of the five galaxies bound in a gravitational motion. NASA states, “Webb’s new image shows in rare detail how interacting galaxies trigger star formation in each other and how gas in galaxies is being disturbed.”

Another astonishing thing about Stephan’s Quintet’s image is that it is the largest image captured by the telescope and coves about 1/5th of the moon’s diameter. “It contains over 150 million pixels and is constructed from almost 1,000 separate image files,” NASA states. “The information from Webb provides new insights into how galactic interactions may have driven galaxy evolution in the early universe.”

Top 4 Attractions Everyone Must Visit While in Paris

Top 4 Attractions Everyone Must Visit While in Paris

Paris is often known as the city of romance as well as where people go for delicious wine and culinary experiences.  Visitors can walk the streets, often hand in hand, while seeing the sights and stopping in any of the numerous fascinating restaurants or bakeries for a bite to eat.

While in Paris, everyone must visit these top 4 attractions:

Musee du Louvre

There are multiple museums in Paris, but this one is the best with approximately thirty-five thousand works of art on display.  With so much to see in the six hundred and fifty thousand square feet of space, guests are encouraged to decide which exhibits they want to see ahead of time.  A few of the more popular works of art include Eugene Delacroix’s Liberty of Leading the People, Theodore Gericault’s The Raft of Medusa, and Leonardo da Vinci’s infamous Mona Lisa.

Louvre museum is one of the world’s largest museums with more than 8 million visitors each year.

Arc de Triomphe

Anyone that is near the Champs-Élysées will find that they cannot miss the Arc de Triomphe that is located at the western end.  Napoleon had this arch built to honor those who fought during the Napoleonic Wars, and the names of the battles of the wars and the generals who fought in them are inscribed underneath.  Most people pay their respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before climbing to the top for the spectacular panoramic views of the city.

Notre Dame Cathedral

The architectural style and ornamental designs are what draws people to the Notre Dame Cathedral, and this magnificent building took more than one hundred and fifty years to become the masterpiece that it now is.  On the outside, visitors are greeted with sculptures and gargoyles, as well as twenty-one figures in the Gallery of Kings.  The inside is even more intense and beautiful with stained glass windows, including the one with Old Testament scenes in the north transept.*as of the date of publishing, Notre Dame Cathedral is closed due to a fire.

Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is practically the centerpiece of Paris, and it is always the number one destination on everyone’s list when they arrive in the city.  Most people will visit this attraction whenever they get a chance, however, the best time to go is at night when it lights up for a few minutes, every hour on the hour.  People can enjoy a delectable meal at the restaurant on the second floor before continuing up to the top for amazing views of the city and the surrounding area.

There are many other attractions for people to see in Paris, so many in fact, that everyone could stay in the city for a week or more and not see everything on their list.  However, as long as they see these four attractions, they will have seen the best of the city of romance, and the rest can wait for their return trip to this fascinating destination.
