These are the Companies that will Bear Travel Expenses for Employee Abortions
Quite a few companies have resolved to help their employees gain access to abortion services.
After the Supreme Court reversed the constitutional right to abortion on 24-June-2022, several companies issued statements reiterating their commitment to helping their employees acquire health care services they otherwise couldn’t receive from the state.
Following a memo from the Supreme Court, companies began rolling out policies on bearing the travel expenses for employees who want abortion in May. These “travel expenses for employee abortions” companies included Yelp, Airbnb, Starbucks, DoorDash, Tesla, PayPal, Patagonia, JPMorgan Chase, Reddit, Netflix, Levi Strauss & Co., and Microsoft. Others followed suit, including Meta, Conde Nast, Disney, and Dick’s Sporting Goods joined hands with them when the decision was announced on Friday, though most kept away from issuing public statements.
“As the world’s most broadly-based health care company, we strive to improve access and affordability, create healthier communities, and put health within reach for the people we serve,” stated Johnson & Johnson on Friday. “We also believe health care decisions are best determined by individuals in consultation with their health care provider.”
Reddit also reassured its employees could receive a stipend to bear travel costs for abortion procedures. “Our benefits programs are designed to contribute towards the safety of our employees, and we also have robust policies to support women in the workplace” said one of the company’s representatives.
Levi Strauss & Co. urged business leaders to take action against the ruling. “Protection of reproductive rights is a critical business issue impacting our workforce, our economy, and progress toward gender and racial equity,” the company stated. “Given what it is at stake, business leaders need to make their voices heard.”

- Disney, like its counterparts, is determined to cover travel expenses for its employees. “We recognize the impact that today’s Supreme Court ruling could have on many Americans,” wrote Paul Richardson and Pascale Thomas, the company’s head of HR and vice president.
- Meta’s spokesperson followed suit and said: “We intend to offer travel expense reimbursements, to the extent permitted by law, for employees who will need them to access out-of-state health care and reproductive services. We are in the process of assessing how best to do so given the legal complexities involved.”
