What You Can Expect from Death Drive
The great thing about this road trip is that it’s very accessible for travelers to Las Vegas. The loop starts in Las Vegas before heading to Death Valley and then back again to the city. However, if you are starting your trip elsewhere in the state, there are many different routes on offer. The journey usually begins with the Las Vegas to Pahrump leg, which should only take you about two hours. During this time, you can stop at the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park or enjoy the beautiful Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. If you’ve been looking to escape the bustling resorts in Las Vegas, it’s the ideal way to get out of the city for a little while.
When you enter Pahrump, there are some excellent places to stop for a drink and a bite to eat, or somewhere to stay for the night if you’ve had a long day of exploring. Don’t miss Mountain Springs Saloon, which is considered to be one of Nevada’s top biker bars. You could also enjoy exploring local wineries, including the Sanders Family Winery, Pahrump Valley Winery, or the Mountain Falls Golf Club.

One of the highlights of any Las Vegas vacation is Death Valley National Park. This park has over three million acres of desert, with unique rock formations, mountains, and canyons. Make sure you take the time to visit Zabriskie Point, Artist’s Palette Overlook, and Scotty’s Castle, which are some of the top locations to stop at in Death Valley National Park. If you are looking for some fun souvenirs of your trip to take home, visit the coffin-themed store on the roadside nearby.
Continuing on Your Journey on Death Drive
After visiting Death Valley National Park, you’ll then head on to Beatty, where we recommend you stop at the famous ghost town, Rhyolite. The Goldwell Open Air Museum is also well worth a stop at if you are looking to see some unique sculptures in this one-of-a-kind museum. About halfway along Death Drive, you head south to start your return to Las Vegas. Driving through the Mount Charleston region, you might even see snow if you are visiting closer to winter. At 12,000 ft above sea level, it’s one of Nevada’s highest peaks and is another highlight of this Nevada road trip before heading back to Las Vegas.
